VELOcity
San Francisco, CA

In order to expand the existing movement toward funding of bike-centered commuting practices in place in the Bay Area, this proposal creates an infrastructure for the accommodation of the bicycle and its related programs. This proposal understands the densities required to meet future demand and proposes a system designed to incrementally accommodate both immediate needs and future growth.

Upon completion of the east span of the Bay Bridge, the bike link from Oakland to San Francisco is half-complete. A proposed bikeway on the West span would complete the connection and subsequently increase the volume of riders. This added density will require a responsive infrastructure for bike locking, maintenance, refuse, technology, and energy. VEL0city envisions the modular bike rack as the initial foundation of this infrastructure.
