Forward Health
New York, NY
2,900 square feet
Located near Madison Square Park in New York, this site was the first East Coast clinic for Forward. The design began with unpacking the history of this Landmark Preservation building and studying how to adapt a clinic to this context. The exterior design was constrained by the limitations of the Landmark's process. Research and close collaboration with the design team led to subtle modifications of the storefront and sign band to update the façade while maintaining its historic integrity. Inside, the clinic is split into two levels, with each level providing consult rooms and support spaces. The upper level mezzanine was expanded to house the mechanical service space. The millwork wrapper inside the storefront purposefully angles inward to delineate the entry zone from reception, creating spatial layers within a compressed footprint.
