This seismic retrofit project provides structural support for a 19th century clay block building and facility improvements for an existing watering hole and retail store. The new steel structure around the perimeter supports gravity loads while strategically placed internal braced frames resist lateral loads. Its color and placement were carefully considered to both preserve and enhance the historic beauty of the building.
